Selbstgespräche mit einer KI (Self-talks with an AI)#
Book, 322 pages
»Selbstgespräche mit einer KI« (Self-talks with an AI) is the construction, use and reflection of an intelligent typewriter, a text generator programmed for my thinking and writing. The AI is trained with manually selected quotations from aesthetics, natural sciences, computer science, philosophy of technology, philosophy of mind and prose. The writing assistant makes suggestions for the continuation of my thoughts.
In the foreground it is about a machine writing aid for literature or theory. In the background, it is about a machine that writes me (my view of the world and myself). Self-definition through self-reflection and self-design, both by means of AI.
Through the use of the machine a four-part portrait of the human and machine author is created, which merge with each other: 1) »Selbstgespräche« (self-talks): Texts written jointly by me and the machine. 2) »Datenset« (dataset): The quotations used to train the typewriter. 3) A »Handbuch« (manual) that documents and reflects the process of creation. 4) The »Code«.
Two pages of the Gespräche (Dialogues)
The self-talks are about the construction of the author, in this case not only the human author but also the machine author. It is not possible to separate these clearly from one another; rather, the focus is on the connection (or fusion) of both authors, as well as on the connection between literary and scientific writings about the ego/self and technoscientific writings about transclassical and adaptive machines.
Two pages of the Manual
The handbook describes and reflects on the creation process and the background to the "Self-talks with an AI". It offers access not only to the texts produced, but also to machine learning techniques and the relationship between the technology and us humans. As this manual is written on the machine it is supposed to reflect, its text is changed by the influence of the machine. The machine will not only determine the reflection, the reflection will also determine the machine, because the reflection has already begun while the machine is still being constructed.
Two pages of the Dataset
The dataset and therefore also the knowledge of the typewriter is very limited. Consequently, the machine's suggestions take place in a very limited space. On the one hand, this reinforces the character of the self-talk; on the other hand, the limitation of knowledge is intended to make a more in-depth examination of the subject area virtually unavoidable. In addition, the dataset is human-readable in terms of its size, which means that it not only provides conclusions about the algorithms used, but can also be used for the reader's own examination of the topic.
Two pages of the Code
The code printed in the manual shows invoked functions and their results. The complete functions can be traced in the "Code" section.
